Lake Brandt is an 816-acre municipal reservoir. The lake was originally built in 1925 and raised to its present level in 1958.
Fishing is allowed from the pier or from a boat. No bank fishing is allowed. Fishing is most successful for largemouth bass, crappie, and catfish.
Kayaking, stand-up paddling boarding, and canoeing are allowed on Lake Brandt. A launch ramp is open for private boats. Privately owned canoes and kayaks may be launched year-round. It is the smallest of the three City lakes, yet offers some of the best fishing in the area. Fishing is allowed from a boat or from the pier. Kayaking, stand-up paddling boarding (SUP) and canoeing are also allowed on Lake Higgins. A launch ramp is open for launching private boats. The North Carolina Rowing Center is located on Lake Higgins and offers rowing for youth and adults. Middle and High School teams are coed and compete throughout the Southeast.

Lake Townsend is the largest of Greensboro’s municipal reservoirs. The lake is 1,542 acres and is adjacent to the Bryan Park Complex and Golf Course off Highway 29 North. A large boat ramp is available for private boat launching, with another launch ramp for small sailboats. Kayaks and rowboats are available to rent. Sailboats can be rented with previous sailing experience. Popular fish include largemouth bass, hybrid bass, striped bass, catfish, and crappie.

Our City has almost 40 miles of mountain biking trails to experience. These trails provide recreational enjoyment for the experienced BMX biker, those just starting out in the sport, and everyone in between.
The trails are preserved in a primitive manner and are linear — you ride out and back along the same path from the trailhead where you started.
Country Park, Copperhead Trail & Free Ride ARea

Country Park is a great place for trails! The Country Park Loop is a one-way, one-lane road open to cars, bikes, in-line skaters and pedestrians. The Veteran’s Trail of Peace, located behind the Veteran’s Memorial, provides a pleasant walk for quiet reflection near Richland Creek. Country Park is also developing a new interpretive nature trail for persons with special needs that will be fully-accessible to everyone. The Copperhead Trail dips and twists through the wooded areas of Country Park with its berms and gullies that keep the mountain biking locals coming back for more. “The Zone” is a new place for expert mountain bikers and BMXers to test their skills on a downhill jump course. “The Zone” features a number of jumps, berms, rhythm and whoop sections sure to get the adrenaline flowing. Helmets are required in “The Zone” and rules are posted on the kiosk next to the course start point behind the Stoner-White Stadium scoreboard. Inexperienced riders are discouraged from entering “The Zone.”
