Extraordinary in the Ordinary

An Intimate October Wedding at O.Henry Hotel

Alex & Seth

Sometimes the most meaningful love stories begin in the most ordinary ways.

For Alex and Seth, love didn’t arrive all at once.
It grew quietly—through familiar drives, ordinary routines, and the kind of everyday moments that slowly become a life together.

Their October wedding at O.Henry Hotel reflected that same feeling: warm, thoughtful, deeply personal, and beautifully true to who they are.

When Paths Finally Cross

Though both attended UNC Chapel Hill and shared several mutual friends, Alex and Seth never met in college. Their lives ran parallel for years—it wasn’t until later, through Bumble, that their paths finally crossed.

Falling in Love | Two Ordinary Moments, One Undeniable Truth

In the early days, their relationship was shaped by distance—Alex in Winston-Salem, Seth in Greensboro—and the drives in between.

His Moment

On one of those familiar drives home, Seth found himself reflecting. He asked himself a simple question:

Was this relationship special enough to keep making the drive again and again?  The answer came easily, Yes!

What had once felt routine suddenly carried more weight.

Her Moment

Seth had returned home to Greensboro after a night out with Alex and friends.

Alex felt something unexpected as the evening came to a close. There was a sudden sadness—a quiet sense of missing him. That was the moment she understood she was in love.

Building a Life, One Step at a Time

A romantic kiss between the bride and groom in the O.Henry Mirrored Hallway.

Their relationship unfolded naturally, without urgency. They built a life in quiet steps—moving in together, buying a home, welcoming dogs, and eventually even a horse.

The proposal came during a weekend getaway to Asheville. They spent the weekend doing many of the things they love most — visiting gardens and greenhouses and exploring the mountain grounds. While walking along the Sunset Trail, Seth asked Alex to marry him.

She suspected it might happen sometime that weekend and admits she felt butterflies at every turn.

But when the moment arrived, she remembers thinking only one thing:

“It was surreal… it was perfect.”

Why O.Henry Felt Right

With Seth’s family based in Greensboro, the couple always imagined the wedding would take place there. The moment they considered O.Henry Hotel, the decision felt easy.

Alex & Seth

We are practical and knew the wedding would be in Greensboro. We love O.Henry, Proximity, Print Works Bistro, and Green Valley Grill. We come all the time. We know it’s great and thought, why would we go anywhere else?

Alex and Seth especially like the European-inspired architecture, the old-world charm, and the welcoming atmosphere of O.Henry Hotel.

The Afternoon Tea was special for Alex and her mom and made such a strong impression that the thought of it reinforced her idea of the ambiance and atmosphere she would like to echo on her wedding day.

Beyond the beauty of the venue, they trusted the culinary team completely—so much so that they didn’t even feel the need to schedule a tasting.

The Vision | Equestrian English Garden

Alex grew up riding horses and has always loved the elegance of equestrian life. She’s also an avid gardener with a deep appreciation for English garden design. Her vision for the wedding reflected both passions.

The reception would feel like an English countryside garden gathering— soft pastels, thoughtful floral details, and a sense of timeless charm.

Flowers she personally selected were arranged by her neighbor and friend, the owner of renowned floral studio Randy McManus Designs. Together they created lush arrangements that felt natural, romantic, and unmistakably Alex.

Guests quickly noticed the personal touches and one guest shared, “everything felt so Alex.”

Ready or Knot | A Perfect Wedding Day

Getting Ready & The Magi Suite Upgrade

With the Ready or Knot Package, Alex and her bridesmaids spent the morning preparing in the spacious Magi Suite at the O.Henry Hotel. With an early check-in, they had plenty of time to relax and enjoy the experience. Music filled the room through the suite’s speakers while the group shared an Afternoon Tea service in the suite.

The lighting was amazing, even the makeup artist was impressed— 10 out of 10, I would recommend.

O.Henry Magi Suite Bedroom and Bath

Alex and Seth chose to stay in the Magi Suite for their wedding night since they had already booked the space as an upgrade for Alex’s bridal suite. Many couples enjoy the two room space, featuring 9-foot ceilings, top floor views, hand-painted ceiling murals, deep soaking tub, noise cancelling construction, and luxurious King Magi bed.

Celebrating Together

The wedding ceremony was held off-site. Newly married, Alex and Seth arrived to O.Henry Hotel in style in a 1949 Buick Super. While the couple took photos, guests enjoyed drinks and appetizers.

Authenticity mattered deeply to the couple. They intentionally chose a smaller celebration so they could truly spend time with each guest.

A Dance That Said Everything

For their first dance, Alex and Seth chose a violin version of Ordinary by Alex Warren. Its message captures something deeply true about their story. As the song puts it, “ordinary feels like heaven.”

That sentiment echoes the way their relationship grew— through simple moments that slowly became the foundation of a life together.

Heartfelt Words

The evening was filled with heartfelt speeches, but one moment stood out. Seth’s father, who rarely speaks so openly, surprised everyone with a deeply touching toast. His words moved the room— and meant the world to the couple. It quickly became the most memorable moment of the night.

A Flawless Day

Since Alex & Seth are staying at O.Henry Hotel for their wedding night, they have a faux exit with the Taxi Cab.

Looking back, Alex and Seth say the day felt wonderfully easy.

The team at O.Henry handled every detail seamlessly, from the timing of the evening to accommodating vegetarian guests with flexibility and care.

Alex & Seth

O.Henry exceeded our expectations. The day had very little stress— everything was flawless.

They had spent the day surrounded by the people who mattered most. Sharing the kind of moments they’ve always valued—warm, meaningful, and unhurried.

And in many ways, it reflected everything that came before. This day wasn’t a beginning, it was a continuation. It was a celebration of all the ordinary moments that led them here—and all the beautiful ones still ahead.
