A Warm Hug Wedding

Jennifer & Rob

Jennifer and Rob’s love story began at work. For years they crossed paths in different locations, but it wasn’t until Rob relocated from New York to Greensboro that sparks flew. From that point forward, their lives intertwined naturally, leading to falling in love.

On a sunny June afternoon, Rob and Jennifer were enjoying a motorcycle ride when Rob realized the moment he’d been waiting for had arrived. He’d been holding onto the engagement ring for weeks, and that day felt just right. Rob asked Jennifer to marry him—and she said yes.

Newly engaged, they bought a home together in August and wanted to be married by October. The eager couple reserved the only available date—a Sunday—due to the world-renowned High Point Furniture Market and surrounding college homecoming weekends. What followed was an intimate fall wedding at O.Henry Hotel in Greensboro, North Carolina, planned in just twelve joyful weeks.

Planning an October Wedding at O.Henry Hotel

Choosing the Perfect Greensboro Wedding Venue

O.Henry Hotel Afternoon Tea had long been a tradition for Jennifer and her daughters. Years earlier, they were having tea at O.Henry for a birthday surprise. That day, they witnessed a bride preparing for her ceremony in the Don Rives Cloister Garden.

It was a beautiful moment.

An Easy Decision

I never forgot that day. It all came full circle when we decided to have tea the afternoon before the wedding with all the ladies in our family.

Choosing O.Henry Hotel as their wedding venue was an easy decision.

The Vision

Jennifer and Rob wanted their wedding day to feel like a warm hug—an outdoor ceremony in the Cloister Garden followed by an intimate indoor reception in O.Henry’s orangery-style Pavilion. They envisioned a fluid afternoon with little formality, allowing the day to unfold naturally and feel special without being over the top.

The Wedding Palette

It was important that Jennifer’s daughters were involved. From the very beginning, they weren’t just included in the wedding—they shaped it.

The daughters played starring roles that they each picked for themselves: Reagan as maid of honor, Merritt as ring bearer, and Cambrie as flower girl. Then, they chose their own dresses, inspiring the wedding color palette.

A Moment of Calm

Before the ceremony, Jennifer and Rob shared a private first look in the lush O.Henry Cloister Garden. In that moment, they were able to share their excitement, joy, and enjoy the calm before the beautiful whirlwind of the day.

The First Peek

It was very special… It really helped calm the anxious nerves and get us excited to start the ceremony.

A Sunday Afternoon Wedding Ceremony

The ceremony was held in the Don Rives Cloister Garden with eighteen guests seated in gold Chiavari chairs facing the arbor. The intimate guest list included only family and two of Rob’s closest friends—men who are more like brothers. Their presence made the day complete.

Their handwritten vows—created separately and kept secret until the ceremony—were funny, thoughtful, and deeply personal, a highlight of the day.

A Celebration of Family

The first dance was to Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World. The dance floor truly came alive with their daughters’ wedding reception soundtrack picks—like the Macarena and Cha Cha Slide—that got everyone moving together.

A Meaningful toast

A sweet surprise at the reception— Jennifer’s daughter reading aloud a book she wrote about their wedding and their family’s story.

A “Warm Hug” Wedding Day Success

For Jennifer and Rob, this day was about love, family, and warmth. From afternoon tea to the last dance, O.Henry Hotel provided a setting where family was front and center, where the day flowed naturally, and where every moment felt like a warm hug—the kind that lingers long after the celebration ends.

Better Than Imagined

The O.Henry Team was really good at understanding what we wanted and adapting to that. We wanted a special event but not over the top (and not stressful to plan). They helped plan the whole event as well as suggested ways the hotel could help with certain aspects (such as flowers and table centerpieces). We literally showed up to the wedding with what we could carry to get ready and the hotel did the rest!
