North Carolina Zoo
Located just south of Asheboro, the North Carolina Zoo is seated on a 2,200-acre tract of land in the Uwharrie Mountains. Approximately 500 acres of this property have been developed into one of the largest “natural habitat” zoos in the United States. You won’t find cages made of steel and concrete there. The animals are given enclosures that mimic their natural habitats to include trees, ponds, rocks, grass and dirt.
Old Salem
Old Salem is a historic district of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. It features a living history museum (operated by the non-profit Old Salem Museums & Gardens, organized as Old Salem Inc.) that interprets the restored Moravian community. The non-profit organization began its work in 1950, although some private residents had restored buildings earlier. As the Old Salem Historic District, it was declared a National Historic Landmark (NHL) in 1966. The district showcases the culture of the Moravian settlement in North Carolina during the 18th and 19th centuries, communal buildings, churches, houses, and shops.
Emerald Pointe Water Park
Wet ‘n Wild Emerald Pointe is part of the Wet ‘n Wild chain of water parks. It is the 12th largest water park in the United States using over 3 million US gallons of water. There are 36 rides including Daredevil Drop, one of the nation’s tallest water slides, and family rides such as Tropical Drop. The park also features two heavily themed family sections known as Splash Island, and Happy Harbor.
SouthEastern Center for contemporary art
The Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA) is a multimedia contemporary art gallery in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The museum provides visitors dynamic and innovative experiences with contemporary artists and their work. The museum bridges art, technology and engagement to enhance perspectives, inspire community and ignite new ideas, while continuously seeking out new and emerging artists.

WINERIES AND bREWERIES
Tour wineries of the Yadkin Valley, using O.Henry as your base. The nearby Yadkin Valley is designated as the first viticultural appellation in North Carolina. The Yadkin Valley is very distinct with soil that is clayey, well-drained and moderately fertile, which are excellent qualities for grape growing. In the past five years, the number of wineries in North Carolina has leaped from 15 to 40.
